Breakdown of the 2020 Evolution of the Intranet survey respondents.
“70% [of companies] feel their intranet is valuable or very valuable to employees, yet most intranets are standalone document repositories that are not being integrated into the myriad other services employees rely on to get their jobs done.”
Brightspot and CMSWire recently surveyed more than 700 professionals to take a deep dive into the current state of corporate intranets, and this key takeaway from the survey shows a clear challenge to align technology and intranet goals.
Today, intranets have emerged as engaging tools employees use to improve their workflow, feel more connected to their company, and access necessary resources. Through this survey, we found that despite lofty intranet goals, companies still have an antiquated view and expectations of what a corporate intranet should be.
The survey also measured the moment when the COVID-19 pandemic sky-rocketed remote work and made the intranet an essential tool for companies around the world. According to Gallup, nearly seven in 10 employees are currently working remotely all or part of the time and only 25% of those remote employees are willing to return to the office once restrictions are lifted. This survey was conducted with this in mind, to explore and better understand what defines the most successful intranets, and how that changes in a time of crisis.
